Pool Pump Repair — Solaris Dutamas, Mont Kiara

The Challenge

The property management team at Solaris Dutamas — a premium 200-unit condominium in Mont Kiara — contacted us on an urgent basis. Their main circulation pump had failed overnight, and by morning the pool water was already showing signs of stagnation. With hundreds of residents relying on the pool facility daily, the situation required an immediate response.

Upon initial inspection, we discovered that the pump motor had seized due to a combination of bearing failure and water ingress into the motor housing. The pump was a 3HP Pentair unit that had been running continuously for over six years without a motor overhaul. Additionally, the existing electrical wiring showed signs of corrosion at the terminal block, and the contactors in the pump control panel were heavily pitted — a fire hazard that needed to be addressed simultaneously.

Our Solution

We dispatched our repair team within two hours of the initial call. After a thorough diagnostic assessment, we confirmed that the motor was beyond economical repair and recommended a full motor replacement. We sourced a genuine Pentair replacement motor from our local distributor in Shah Alam and had it delivered to the site by early afternoon on Day 1.

The motor swap was completed by end of Day 1, including new mechanical seals, gaskets, and a fresh impeller inspection. On Day 2, our licensed electrician rewired the pump circuit from the control panel to the motor terminal, replacing all corroded cabling with marine-grade wiring rated for the pump room's humidity. We also replaced the contactors and installed a motor protection relay to prevent future overload damage.

As a preventive measure, we recommended and installed a secondary backup pump on a parallel line. This ensures that if the primary pump ever fails again, the management can switch to the backup within minutes rather than waiting for emergency repairs. The Result

Full water circulation was restored by midday on Day 2. Flow rate testing confirmed the new motor was delivering 280 litres per minute — exceeding the original specification and ensuring the pool's 120,000-litre volume turns over every 7 hours, well within the Malaysian Ministry of Health guidelines for public pools.

The management committee was particularly pleased with the backup pump installation, which gives them peace of mind and eliminates the risk of pool closures during future equipment failures.
